To be relevant in social media, an author or any professional for that matter needs to focus his writing on a unique brand of information. It should not be news-based. It should be educational or motivational. It is impossible to compete with the conglomerate news media. It would be foolish to think so. Also, as an educated individual, you should be realistic. The pool of readers is so vast and diverse that no author will ever be able to please everyone.
Your writing style and field of expertise backed by a strong dose of determination will ultimately pay off. Followers will come and stick with you. So, branding your name is key to success—literary success. For instance, I am a writer that you would place in the category of progressive writers, for I have a particular interest in historical fiction as well as in scholarly research based on historical facts. I use my pen to push the agenda of social justice. That’s my brand. Yours may be different, as there are many genres in literature. My advice is to be true to yourself and be proactive as a writer. Of course, know what your readers expect from you. But that’s my opinion.
